The Agency Debates

We are thrilled to introduce our electrifying event series in collaboration with CIPR Greater London Group, The Agency Debates.  Every other month, we're turning up the heat with a sizzling debate, featuring one STELLAR agency. The first agency to take part was Four Agency Worldwide.
Expect nothing less than fiery discussions, inspiring speakers, and thought-provoking debates that delve deep into the core of challenges, issues, and invaluable lessons that impact women in the workplace and beyond. This series is designed to empower and uplift the incredible women of PR & Comms, paving the way for their skyrocketing careers.

THE AGENCY DEBATES

What can we learn from Gen Z:  Setting boundaries and sticking to them.

The inaugral event was cracking! Thanks to all the formidable people who came along, and to the wise and honest panel who shared past and present perspectives on the workplace, juggling family life and the importance of self.

So, what did we learn from the canon of Gen Z? Quite a lot as it happens. Their renewed perspectives are the breath of fresh air we should all embrace, especially when it comes to setting boundaries. Here are some of the key take outs...

Gen Z…

Worship workplace flexibility, they know one size does not fit all. The world had changed, and we are trying to navigate the best ways to work as individuals, teams, and businesses. Now is the time to unlock the power of individuals and a team: those starting out in their careers, those juggling a career and family, to those facing retirement.

Understand personal time is sacred. Whether its family time, extracurricular activities or a side hustle as individuals we need time to follow our passions. Leaders and businesses should encourage this to expand thinking and cultural relevance.

Reject conformity and value the authentic self.   They respect and embrace individuality and diversity in the workplace.

Know vulnerability is a strength. Leaders who are human and relatable build trust and connection. You, or your team don’t have to leave personal lives at the door. It matters if it impacts your work life.

Prioritise mental health and expect it to be taken seriously by their employers and colleagues. A solution is not a Headspace or Calm subscription. It’s a skill and a strength to know when to step back and take a break, and to recognise it in others.

Expect transparent, open, and honest leadership. They want context and to understand their role in the bigger picture. It helps them set boundaries, forge a path ahead for themselves, the team, the business.

Agree linear careers are outdated. Gen X and Millennials must unlearn previous generational thinking that a sign of a successful career is longevity or loyalty. Find your passions, be authentic, forge your own path.

We are not robots. Be your own self. Don’t be afraid to be honest. Honour humanity. Breathe.
